Senior/Principal Flood Risk Consultant

Based in Nottingham, out Client offers engineering excellence within the flood, water, and environmental sectors. Operating with a team of qualified and experienced specialists, the company is leading the charge on raising awareness of flood risk. They have an extensive client base to which they offer high level advice, consultancy, drainage designs, and risk assessments.

They are driven by a passion of reducing flood risk across the U.K, and ensuring they continue to deliver the highest level of advice and service. The company operates with residential and commercial clients, both in the U.K and overseas.

Our Client have great aspirations and growth plans for the business and require a Principal Flood Risk Consultant to manage the existing team, undertake strategic business planning, and conduct flood risk consulting.


As a business they are regularly featured by media outlets including SKY News, Channel 4, and ITV NEWS, alongside being invited to introduce policy changes at Parliament.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Company’s technical and advisory team, managing and working with the business development staff and flood risk team. They will have responsibility for scoping, winning, and delivering a range of projects nationally.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking and delivering Flood Risk Assessments (for planning)

  • Undertaking and delivering Due Diligence for prospective property purchasers

  • Site investigation and surveys to better understand the risk, construction, and drainage of a property

  • Property Flood Resilience Surveys

  • Review and interpretation of Flood Surveys

  • Project management, including quality assurance and health & safety risk assessments

  • Preparation of fee quotes

  • Meetings/calls with clients to discuss findings

  • Drainage designs for surface water and foul, along with backflow protection design

  • Obtaining consents such as Environmental Permits

  • Interpreting LIDAR and Topographic Surveys

  • Technical report writing

  • Managing workload and existing team members

  • Strategic business planning

  • Business development, alongside the Business Development Manager



  • A minimum of five years professional experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or relevant such as Building Surveying)

  • Membership of CIWEM, ICE or RICS

  • Chartered Status (C.WEM / MRICS etc)

  • Proficient in the delivery of a broad range of flood risk projects

  • Proficient with QGIS, Microsoft Office, and Microdrainage.

  • Hold a driving license and be prepared to drive for business purposes

  • Strong communication skills with an excellent telephone manner

  • Willingness to deal with client enquiries over the telephone and via email and undertake regular consultation with regulatory bodies

  • Good administration and organisation skills to coordinate own time

  • Experience in technical report writing

  • Team management experience.
